Description

The Strela KOMAROV KOM40CYS is an advanced 10 ATM mechanical chronograph. The KOM40CYS watch was made in memory of cosmonaut Vladimir Mikhaylovich Komarov. Unfortunately, he was the first man to die during a space mission (Soyuz 1). His name is listed on the metal plate of the artwork Fallen Astronaut, which was erected on the moon. Juri Gagarin was a close friend from Komarov and the backup cosmonaut for the tragic Soyuz 1 mission.

With a special case back showing the Soyuz 7K-OK space ship and the 100 pieces limitation number this watch is highly collectible and a special add on to our lineup.

The 40 mm case has brushed sides, polished lugs, and bezel.

Dial: The subtle beige dial of the KOMAROV KOM40CYS model resembles the look & feel of some the most iconic vintage Strela models. Applied silver baton indexes. Silver hands. A retro Strela design carefully cultivated with a new spiral tachymeter scale. The Cyrillic lettering from the dial shows the following from top to bottom: Strela, 21 jewels, XXX, tachymeter, V.M. Komarov, geo coordinates from Komarovs impact site and monument, 1MWF chronograph, icon cccp. On the case back is engraved: In honor of the cosmonaut – V.M. Komarov – Hero of the Soviet Union – USSR Space Program – Soyuz-1 – Callsign Rubin.

The watch comes with a highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and with a stunningly finished stainless steel case back. Engraved with the design of the Soyuz 7K-OK space ship and the 100 pieces limitation number.

Movement: The ST 1901 by Sea-Gull (TY2901) is a very precise and strong running hand-wound mechanical chronograph caliber with 23 jewels. A smooth column wheel and a balance wheel that operates at 3 Hz (21,600 vph). A small second dial at the 9 o’clock position, and a 30 minute counter (accumulator) sub-dial at 3 o’clock. Finally, a sweep second counter mounted centrally along with the timekeeping minute and hour hands.

The Chronograph is controlled by two buttons. One (at 2 o’clock) for starting and stopping the chronograph, one (at 4 o’clock) for resetting the second and minute counters.
